Just 25 miles west of Chicago, is the village of Glen Ellyn. The village has set forth the motto: “Village of Volunteers.” Glen Ellyn came about because of the name of the once Village President, Thomas E. Hill’s wife Ellen. Glen was added to the beginning because of geographical reasons. “Glen Ellyn” became official in 1889, when Hill and Philo Stacy started the idea to create a new lake in the village, called Lake Glen Ellyn.
Many of Glen Ellyn’s parks feature an abundance of activities to partake in such as: basketball courts, bocce courts, disc golf, fishing, fitness centers, horseshoe pits, miniature golf course, and more! If shopping is your thing, downtown Glen Ellyn is filled with many shops. The village is close to Oakbrook Center, Yorktown Center and Stratford Square Mall.
The Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta is a race where handmade cardboard boats are use to get participants across Lake Ellyn. Awards are given for most creative, team spirit, and best sink. Audiences are welcomed to watch the spectacle and cheer on teams.
